Josh Russell, a Brazilian jiu jitsu Black belt since 2004, trained at the world famous Gracie Barra Academy in Rio de Janeiro. Training under Carlos Gracie Junior, Josh went from white to black belt in under four years training with the likes of Roger Gracie, Igor Gracie, Bruno Fernandes, Lucio Rodrigues, and Celso Vinicius. At Gracie Barra, Josh was an active competitor earning the overall number one individual ranking in the Rio de Janeiro State brown belt lightweight category, and a second place finish in the Brazilian team nationals, both in 2004. Back in Canada, Josh opened his own academy, and became the the head coach for Jason MacDonald in all of his 14 UFC appearances. His academy in Calgary is thriving, and his team is recognized as one of the top teams in Canada.
